Within a 75-mile radius of Lake Tahoe there are more than 450 lakes, reservoirs, rivers and streams -- each with their own fishing profile! Many of the lakes in the high country are stocked regularly by various public agencies. Interestingly, fishing pressure is low at these lakes so the odds are high for catching some really big fish. Cold water streams surround Tahoe. The lake itself drains at the northwest corner via the Truckee River.  The Truckee runs north and then east through Reno and Sparks. In the lake itself, the prized fish are Mackinaw (Lake Trout), Kokanee Salmon, Rainbow Trout, and Brown Trout. The daily limit is five fish per person. Average size is 2 - 7 lbs (1 - 3 kg) and numerous fish over 30 lbs are taken each year!
